The best used Taylormade driver to buy in 2026? - SIM2 Max

The TaylorMade SIM2 Max driver, released in 2021, stands out as a pivotal model in TaylorMade’s history. It was the last driver they produced with a traditional titanium face before shifting to carbon structures in later models like the Qi4D. Aesthetically, the SIM2 Max is a beautiful driver; it sits slightly more upright than many recent TaylorMade models. The classic carbon crown, paired with a contrasting white front edge and a bold blue aluminium ring at the back, creates a striking look, though it’s a design that can be polarising.

Design, Technology, and Performance

The SIM2 Max driver featured a host of design innovations, many of which had been seen in earlier TaylorMade models, but they were refined here. You get the adjustable hosel sleeve, allowing you to tweak loft up or down by 2 degrees and adjust the lie for a fade or draw bias. The iconic Speed Pocket present from previous generations maximises ball speed, particularly on low face strikes, while the famed Twist Face technology corrects off centre hits by helping you start the ball on a better line when mis-struck to find the fairway more often. The inertia generator in the rear, along with the full carbon sole, improves aerodynamics, delivering faster clubhead speed. At its core, the SIM2 Max blends that classic titanium feel with a sleek, compact profile. On the course, its performance was exceptional with a balanced flight, rich sound, and a forgiving profile, especially for me, given my mid spin needs.

Who Is It For?

The SIM2 Max is a driver that caters to a broad spectrum of golfers. From high handicappers to scratch golfers, it provides exceptional forgiveness in a compact package. It particularly shines for golfers who don’t naturally produce high spin. If you struggle with drivers that lose height quickly on mishits, this is a mid spin head that keeps the ball in the air, even on off centre strikes. The feel is superb, like a classic TaylorMade crack while the compact size and outstanding forgiveness give you confidence on every tee. You can still pick this driver up brand new for around £279 and even cheaper if looking for used examples, it delivers incredible value for anyone looking to upgrade this season.
